Project: Turnaround and qualification of specialists for quality management

Client: Inbit gGmbH (on behalf of the Federal Employment Agency)
Period: June 2008 – August 2008
Role: Lecturer for quality management & career coach

I was hired at short notice as a lecturer to take over a quality management training program that had run into difficulties. The aim was to qualify a diverse group of 16 unemployed engineers and technicians for a successful return to work as quality specialists in industry, particularly in the automotive sector. I encountered a group that was initially unmotivated and faced the challenge of combining a wide range of prior knowledge.

My core responsibilities and results:

  • Practice-oriented teaching methodology and motivation enhancement: Through a strongly application-oriented approach and by emphasizing the relevance for the job market, I was able to significantly increase the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants. I taught the basics of QM as well as the specific requirements of ISO 9001 and the then ISO/TS 16949.
  • Organization of external certifications: Going beyond the curriculum, I organized participation in official external exams at short notice to enable participants to obtain a recognized and valuable qualification. The results were outstanding:

    • 100%  passed the internal final exams.
    •
    • 10  out of 14 participants obtained the official certificate as quality  specialists.
    •
    • Six  of them even passed the advanced exam to become quality  representatives.
  •
  • Active job placement and network utilization: I used my professional network to actively establish contacts with potential employers. Immediately after the program, 8 participants found new jobs in quality management.

Project impact: I not only imparted technical knowledge, but also gave a group of skilled workers in a difficult professional phase a concrete, certified, and jobmarket-relevant new perspective. The success of the program, measured by the outstanding exam results and the high placement rate of over 70% (based on participants who were actively seeking employment), shows that with the right approach and commitment, people can be successfully motivated and qualified for new challenges.
