Project: Independent assessment of safety artifacts for an aviation system (ARP 4761/4754)

Customer: tri.merge GmbH
Period: October 2023 – December 2023
Role: Functional Safety Consultant (Independent Assessor)

As an independent expert in functional safety, I was commissioned by tri.merge GmbH to conduct a critical assessment of the safety artifacts already created for a complex aviation project. The aim was to evaluate the conformity, completeness, and correctness of the analyses in accordance with aviation standards ARP 4761 and 4754 and to validate the robustness of the existing safety concept.

My core responsibilities and contributions:

  • Assessment of safety analyses according to ARP 4761: My main task was to review and evaluate the existing safety analyses in detail. I analyzed the     documents for methodological correctness, logical consistency, and completeness, particularly with regard to:

    • System  Safety Assessment (SSA): Review of system boundaries and underlying  assumptions.
    •
    • Zonal  Safety Analysis (ZSA): Evaluation of the analysis for overlooked  interdependencies and hazards.
    •
    • Fault  Tree Analysis (FTA): Auditing the FTAs for logical correctness,  coverage of top-level events, and completeness of fault paths.

Project completion:
During the project, I provided a comprehensive assessment of the status quo. The project was stopped by the end customer before the corrective implementation phase was completed due to a strategic realignment.
