Project: Development of the safety case for a cross-OEM high-power charging station

Client: Porsche Engineering GmbH
Period: March 2017 – June 2018
Role: Functional Safety Engineer & Consultant

As a Functional Safety Engineer, I was part of the core team developing a state-of-the-art high-power charging station for electric vehicles. This strategic project was carried out as part of a collaboration between several German car manufacturers to create a leading charginginfrastructure (Ionity).

My core responsibilities and results:

  • Overall development of the safety concept: Together with a colleague from Prague, I developed the safety concept from scratch. This included performing the hazard and risk analysis (HARA) and creating the complete functional and technical safety concept.
  • Coordination and implementation of safety analyses: I was responsible for preparing and coordinating the necessary safety analyses, in particular the FMEDA.     In doing so, I actively managed the collaboration with Asian suppliers to validate their deliveries and ensure a seamless safety chain.
  • Central interface and certification management: As the central point of contact, I coordinated communication between the internal teams, suppliers, and external certification partners. I ensured that all requirements for successful certification were met.
  • Sustainable competence development and knowledge transfer: To ensure long-term support for the product, I took on the targeted training and coaching of an internal employee who, after my induction, was able to successfully take over the role of Functional Safety Manager.

Project impact:
My work culminated in the creation of the complete, validated safety case after all safety tests had been successfully passed. I played a key role in ensuring that a technologically leading and safety-critical infrastructure product achieved certification readiness, thereby creating a crucial prerequisite for market entry.
