Project: Establishment of functional safety and development of the safety case for the vehicle cabin of a shared-ride vehicle

I was hired by the innovative ride-sharing service MOIA to establish functional safety in a newly founded development department. My task was to lay the strategic foundations and lead the operational development of the complete safety case for the passenger cabin of a future autonomous shuttle.

My core responsibilities and results:

• Establishment of a FuSa framework: I designed and created the fundamental specification documents for the department. This included the development of guidelines, methodologies, and strategies in accordance with ISO 26262, thereby creating a binding and process-reliable basis for all future safety-related developments.
• Development of the complete safety case: I carried out the entire safety lifecycle for cabin safety:
   
  • Item Definition & HARA: Definition of the system and performance of hazard and risk analysis.
   
  • Safety concepts: Creation of the functional safety concept (FSC) for monitoring the passenger cabin and, based on this, the detailed technical safety concept (TSC).
   
  • Requirements & analysis management: Derivation of all safety requirements (functional, technical, test) and preparation of the necessary safety analyses (e.g., FTA, FMEA).
• Interface management and technical coordination: As the central safety expert, I coordinated and negotiated the safety-related features and interfaces directly with the vehicle manufacturer to ensure a coherent and consistent overall safety concept.

Project completion:
The project ended on schedule after the contract period expired. Due to an internal management change at the customer, an originally planned extension was not pursued. The foundations I laid and the well-advanced safety case were handed over to the team in full.

Project impact:
I laid the foundation for the safe development of autonomous mobility services at MOIA. My work enabled the new department to handle complex safety issues in a structured and standards-compliant manner in the future. The project delivered a robust and almost complete safety argumentation for a core component of the autonomous shuttle.
